Information about the series

Nightwalker: Midnight Detective was a Japanese anime that ran for two DVDs by U.S. Manga Corps.

Yatsuhiko Shido, or just Shido in the series, is a private investigator living in modern day Tokyo. He's also a vampire.

In this story, the Night Breed, are creatures of the night - demons - who try to possess humans (and sometimes other creatures) in order to survive the daylight. They normally play into people's deepest, darkest desires. Shido works with Yaoi, a detective from an agency built to combat these creatures, in order to stop the killings - which are oftentimes inevitable when it comes to the Breed. Shido also has to combat his own inner demons.

In Europe in the 1700s where he was born and raised, Shido had aspired to become a doctor. Then, he met Cain, who turned him into a vampire. As a newly-turned vampire, Shido killed many people. He turned his little sister, Phaedra, who was distraught that he had taken her away from their dead mother. She jumped into the sunlight to die. That shocked Shido into breaking his ties with Cain. He took the first ship bound for Japan and never looked back.

Cain did eventually find him, over two hundred years later, and tried to lure him back with the promise to reveal his past to him. Shido doesn't remember his original European name. At some point before he met Yaoi, he suffered from amnesia, probably trauma-induced by his sister's death; but Shido fought Cain once again, this time decapitating him.

In the original series, Cain comes back after that and a teenage girl Shido had adopted, Riho, was turned into a vampire; but in my series that doesn't happen.

For my series, I draw a lot of inspiration from a show called Special Unit 2 (which, ironically, doesn't have vampires) and some from Forever Knight (the first season only). Yaoi and her agency play a bigger role, and I also plan to spend more time on Shido's past, particularly his first years in Japan and his medical knowledge. It just so happens Japan during the 1700s had a high influx of European medical technology. Tell me that doesn't have some story potential!

Inuyasha: You're probably wondering why I've got a picture of Inuyasha up there. Well I plan on crossing that with Nightwalker. They have demons in that universe too that like to tempt people.
